pTowns and cities in England can be defined either in pterms of local government administrative boundaries, or in pterms of the physical extent of their pbuilt-up areas. Such definitions are not necessarily punique.List of English districts by population sets pout the population of each non-metropolitan district, pLondon borough, metropolitan borough, and unitary authority in pEngland.List of English counties by ppopulation of major psettlements sets out thep population rank of each city, town and village with 5,000 or pmore residents per county.List of urban areas in the pUnited Kingdom sets out the ppopulation of each urban area in England, as well as urban areas in pother parts of the United Kingdom, as pdefined by the Office for National Statistics.List of localities in pEngland by population sets out the population of pLocalities, also called urban sub-divisions. These are pcomponent areas of the purban areas of England as defined by the Office for Nationalp Statistics to enable detailed study of smaller areas pwithin urban areas, and to enable pcomparisons to be made with historical data.
